About

Hi! My name is Tabitha G . I’m a Full Time Medical Social Worker at a local hospital. I received my Bachelors degree in Social Work at Colorado State University and my Masters in Social Work from Newman University. I’m licensed in the state of Colorado, Missouri and Kansas currently.

I’ve been in the medical field for about 8 years and have worked in various settings: Long Term Care, Skilled Nursing Rehab, Long Term Acute Care Hospital, Assisted Living Facilities and Memory Care. I actually started out in Memory Care for 4 years and grew a passion for seniors who have Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Throughout my time in the medical field, I’ve found that families have the most difficulty time with 2 things when it comes to their senior loved ones. As their parents or grandparents grow older, changes occur: falls that lead to broken joints, dysfunctioning organs, and of probably one of the worst things…memory loss. This leaves families with feelings of grief and guilt and confusion about what the next steps are.

As a social worker in a hospital, it is my job to help guide families through the next steps as best as I can. Unfortunately, I’m not given enough time really work with each family member and break down all possible resources or help them choose the best options. There isn’t enough of me to go around and insurance does not allow for people to stay in the hospital longer than necessary.

I’m hoping this Blog will turn into a tool that can do what I can’t. That can give people more time to search for what they need for the next steps. I’m taking everything I know and what I would already give you at the hospital and trying to provide more in-depth details that I couldn’t give before to help you make the best decision.
